Belmont Dojo
The Belmont Dojo began operating on 4th February 2014. It offers training in Aikido, a Japanese defensive martial art developed by Master Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969). Beginners are most welcome.
Belmont Dojo is one of the two Riai Aikido dojos in the Wellington region. We maintain ties with our “sister” dojo at the City Dojo, Wellington.
Aikido
Aikido is more than a self-defence system. Training in Aikido improves coordination, balance and posture, stimulates the mind, builds self-confidence, improves flexibility, builds “core” strength, and lots more.
If you want to improve your wellbeing and build resilience - explore Aikido.
The dojo provides a safe, fun and friendly environment for students to train in Aikido. Our focus is on cooperative training in a non-competitive and supportive environment.
Our credentials and lineage
We are affiliated to the California Aikido Association (CAA) which in turn is affiliated to Hombu Dojo, World Aikido Headquarters in Tokyo Japan. Within the CAA we are part of Division 3 headed by Robert Nadeau, Shihan (8th Dan). Nadeau Shihan trained under O'Sensei receiving personal instruction in the philosophy of Aikido. Nadeau Shihan regularly visited New Zealand with his last visit in 2019. A connection with Nadeau Shihan is maintained through his on-line virtual dojo.
The Belmont Dojo is also a member of Riai Aikido New Zealand, a school led by Henry Lynch Sensei (6th Dan).
